Philadelphia-based indie rockers Sixteen Jackies celebrated their double EP release on May 18 at PhilaMOCA with a fabulous show. Packed with fans singing along to work from the “Movie Was Bad / Mascula” release, lead singer Jody DeMarco, covered in fake blood and decked out in a dress, it was a brilliant revelation. With great hooks and awesome guitar, bass, keys and percussion from DeMarco, Jeremiah Bull, Ian Staley and Tim Davis that was capped off with some familiar covers from The Cure and Fleetwood Mac, the Sixteen Jackies were superb.
The future of Philadelphia music is now with Sixteen Jackies and the other performers that night. The awesome wall-to-wall rock sounds of the trio known as Long Hots shook the walls of the former mausoleum. Hair crisscrossed and a desire to catch this band again live ASAP was an immediate reaction. Prior to the Long Hots was Isles Isles, playing their first live show. Their energy was stunning and another highlight in the evening.
Madalean Gauze began the four-band bill with part performance art and part rock performance. Accepting awards bestowed by themselves and rocking out with Styrofoam heads, they were an awesome beginning to a memorable night.
