“Who likes music?” shouted Flux Pavilion as he hit the stage around 7:30 on Saturday night at the Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia. The crowd erupted in screams as the 25 year old English dubstep producer threw his hands in the air. “Now, who likes loud dance music? Well my name is Flux Pavillion, and I’ve come to bring you some of that.”
Safe In Sound Festival took their heavy bass music and 150,000 watts of pk sound to the Festival Pier in Philly last Saturday and threw down with some of the most popular names in dance music. The set list did not disappoint as the Festival Pier packed in fans from all over the Philadelphia area to see artists such as Zeds Dead, Excision, and Adventure Club.
The day opened with DJ Architekt to get the crowd going. Just as things started to get crazy, the popular drum and bass trio known as Terravita took the stage to grace Philly with some of the heaviest bass drops in the drum and bass world. Terravita seemed to play forever, going way over their time slot, but no one seemed to mind because at this point the venue was nearly packed in as thousands of teenagers and adults danced wildly to the loud bass music.
Up next on the decks was a man who needs no introduction, mainly because no one knows how to introduce him, because no one knows who he really is! The masked trap lord known as “UZ” has been receiving attention ever since he came into the music scene a few years ago.

What is so special about UZ is not only the crazy trap beats he produces, but also the fact that his identity is protected behind a mask he wears while on stage. Known best for his organized productions of bangers called “Trap S*it,” UZ’s mysterious personality definitely adds to his character and has gathered quite the following in a few short years. I was personally excited to see him live for the first time as I’ve been listening to his beats for a while. It was definitely a fun time to see him DJ live.
Calling all superheroes! The Canadian DJ duo Adventure Club was up next as they were welcomed by thousands of screaming fans as the sun set over the water Saturday evening. Adventure Club has built quite a name for themselves in recent years playing massive festivals all over the world. Their hit mixes known as “Superheroes Anonymous”, are hugely popular all over the Internet.
Many audience members wore mock superhero costumes in support of Adventure Club and the DJ’s dropped some of their hit records including “Youth,” “Crave You,” and “Gold.” The duo did a great job of merging nearly every genre within dance music from trap type tunes, to electro, to house and dubstep.

Flux Pavilion is known for his heavy hitting bass songs like “I Can’t Stop,” and his remix of “Cracks.” When I first heard these songs years ago they were my first introduction to the genre of dubstep, and I can’t believe that a few years later I was actually seeing him live.
Flux Pavilion really knew how to work a crowd and it seemed so natural for him. He could’ve melted the faces of the entire crowd himself, but if that wasn’t enough, there were still two headliners before the night was over.
Excision was about blow the place up with his 150,000 watts of bass pk sound system. The Canadian dubstep producer is known for his annual “Shambhala” music mix with the newest heavy bass music. The main headliner was none other than yet another Canadian duo named Zeds Dead. These bass dons are one of the biggest names in dubstep and their set absolutely lit Festival Pier on fire.

Safe in Sound was an absolute blast and when the final set was over people poured out onto the streets still talking about which set was their favorite. It’s rare that a festival with this many popular names tours this many cities so it was definitely a treat for a lot of bass fans to hear and see some of their favorite names and some pioneers to the genre of dubstep live.
