Lydia Lunch – Kung Fu Necktie – Philadelphia, PA – May 7, 2018

Lydia Lunch is one of our great iconoclasts, an artist destroying and recreating expectations with each syllable and movement. On Monday she brought her brand of no wave music to Kung Fu Necktie and obliterated the crowd.

With her solid band Retrovirus featuring guitarist and frequent jumper Walter Weasel, drummer Bob Bert and bassist Tim Dahl, they ripped open the ecstatic crowd with works like “Gospel Singer,” “Afraid of Your Company” and “Mechanical Flattery.”

Lunch is one of a select number of performers who need to be experienced in the live setting. Monday was my first time; I cannot wait to be shaken to the core again by Lunch.

Frequent Kung Fu Necktie performer Rubber opened with a loud set of propulsive rock.
