Chaotic Rituals

If you’re looking for the perfect soundtrack to your summer, Sun Room delivers just that.

Formed in 2021, the three-piece band from Southern California have quickly climbed the ranks in the music scene, going from performing in backyards to playing sold out shows on tour with Louis Tomlinson in less than two years. Consisting of Luke Asgian (vocals), Max Pinamonti (bass), and Ashton Minnich (guitar), Sun Room has quickly become a fan favorite.

With songs featured in the Netflix series Outer Banks, and tours alongside Louis Tomlinson and Inhaler, the guys embarked on their first headline tour in 2022, selling over 15,000 tickets.

Their sound is a perfect blend of surf rock and garage rock, and each release continues to blow us away. Their latest EP, “Ritual of Chaos,” was released on July 11th and features six incredible tracks. We got to sit down with bassist Max Pinamonti to chat about the release, how the EP came together, and to learn about their upcoming North American headline tour, The Jackknife Tour, which begins in September!

Reflecting on their journey so far, Max shared what it felt like to step into the spotlight for the first time. While the band’s career kicked off with some incredibly notable experiences, for Max, it was their first headline tour that was the most surreal.

“All the shows that we supported at with Louis and Inhaler were amazing, and those were also pinch me moments within themselves,” Max said. “But when we came home from that year and toured in the fall, and people were, you know, buying tickets to see us play – that was kind of the best pinch me moment for me.”

These early touring experiences also played a major role in the development of Sun Room’s sound.

“I think just traveling and exposing ourselves to new music from the bands that we were touring with kind of made us find a sound, really” Max said.

When asked about musical influences and inspirations, Max pointed to one band in particular. “For me personally, I can say - especially our newer music – Arctic Monkeys is one that comes to mind first,” he shared. “Especially their first album, just because it’s rock ’n’ roll, you know? Nothing fancy, the songs get straight to the point, but they do what they’re meant to do.”

This influence has helped them to craft songs that are energetic and fun, allowing them to create their own unique sound.

Sun Room’s latest EP, “Ritual of Chaos,” marks a new chapter for the band, mixing their signature sound with raw energy and unpredictability.

“The title is actually a phrase from the fourth song, ‘On Fire’, and it just kind of felt right,” Max explained. “All of the songs are about chaotic life in your 20s, whether it’s relationships, or experiences, and I think it’s kind of representative of our lives lately. ‘Ritual of Chaos’ was just one of those lyrics that kind of just stuck with us, so we stuck with that as the title” he shared.

“It was last summer that we started recording all these songs, and I think we recorded maybe like nine or ten songs. We chose them from a bigger batch which we haven’t really done before, so I feel like it’s our strongest release yet as far as the quality of the songs.” Max said.

“It was really fun because we did pretty much every song live as a band and then we overdubbed vocals, but it just feels true to being a band. We don’t really get too caught up in production, and you kind of have to let your songs do the talking.”

Max added that recording live in the same room helped the trio feed off of each other’s energy, creating a natural vibe that sometimes gets lost when tracking parts separately.

One standout moment in the EP is “Oslo, Paris, LA”, the band’s first acoustic track.

“I think it’s being received well,” Max shared. “We’ve always joked about how a lot of rock bands’ biggest song is acoustic, which is ironic, but Luke just – I remember the day he wrote it, we were on tour, and it was a rainy day in Birmingham, Alabama, and he just came inside. He showed us the chords and then he just went outside for like thirty minutes and came back. He wrote it about his relationship, and it was perfect as it was.”

This fall, Sun Room is hitting the road again with their North American headline tour –

The Jackknife Tour, and fans are in for quite the experience.

“I think this will probably be our loudest set yet, but in a good way,” Max teased.

With the fresh release of ‘Ritual of Chaos,’ the guys are beyond excited to be able to bring this new music to the stage.

“We’re really excited to have all of these new songs out because we always try to put in a new song here and there and see what the crowd thinks, but it’ll be nice to have these songs out and play them. So I guess the crowd can expect hopefully our best shows yet.”

With “Ritual of Chaos” freshly released and an exciting headline tour on the horizon, Sun Room is diving head first into a new era. What started as a few friends playing house shows and jamming in garages has turned into one of the most exciting bands on the rise. If their journey so far is any indication, this new era is just the beginning of what’s next for Sun Room. We can’t wait to see where they go from here! Be sure to stream “Ritual of Chaos,” and grab your tickets for The Jackknife Tour!
