Philadelphia’s Historic Franklin Square Halloween Celebration is a Hole in One

The Halloween spirit has reached Philadelphia’s historic Franklin Square, bringing yet another event for the city to enjoy. Spooky Mini Golf has returned, and last night we were invited to experience it for the first time. If you happen to be looking for a fun date night idea, or a family outing, I can say that this is a great choice this season. As always, the staff of Franklin Square bring you another well-decorated event suitable for all.

Keep in mind that the most child-friendly experience is from 10 am – 5 pm when there will be no animated props, fog, lighting, or added spooky sound effects. For the older crowd, 5 pm – 10 pm is your time to enjoy the aforementioned effects. We experienced this version of the event and had a nice time getting our swings in and seeing the Philadelphia Mini-golf set get a spooky update. I can say that I was a gracious winner after our game, please do not confirm that I won with my opponent. He will lie and say I lost by 4, which is farthest from the truth.

The course was aglow with my personal favorite practical effects as a Halloween decor lover. Flood lights not only set the spooky mood but gave an added challenge to lining up my minigolf shot. I understand it probably wasn't intentional, but it adds a fun extra challenge regardless for putt-putt enthusiasts.

All props were well picked and cleverly placed. My personal favorite was the skeleton atop a rooster like a horse. As my guest and I played a very competitive round of Spooky Mini-Golf, we were treated to a great selection of Halloween songs that I often had to refocus away from because I would start dancing. My favorite portion of the course was undoubtedly the lake which through great lighting effects glowed green and had smoke gently blown across it.

Beyond the course for attendees’ enjoyment, you can ride on the Parx Liberty Carousel, enjoy the Boo-zy Bar serving great themed cocktails among other drinks. Apple Toddy and Witches Brew name just two of the menu’s highlights. These beverages and more will be available during the night hours of this event, 5pm – 9 pm specifically. For the little ones there is a non-alcoholic option as well available. Lots of delicious food choices are also available.

Come enjoy another fun event at Franklin Square throughout the month of October! Check their listings to be treated to other special events like a pumpkin patch on October 18th, trick or treat street on the 25th, bark-or-treat for your furry pups on the 26th, and the iconic fountain show daily in the US’s oldest public fountain. You’ll find something for everyone! I know we had a great night and found ourselves looking forward to the rest of this spooky season. Tickets available at historicphiladelphia.org.
