Last Sunday the Trocadero was turned into an electroclash club from the mind of one of the most unique performers around — Peaches. Playing behind her 2015 album Rub she led an energized audience through the recesses of her provocative songbook.

She emerged to darkness and then a single spotlight revealing an elaborate costume with insect-like coloration complete with a cape. The “teaches of Peaches” included “Vaginoplasty” complete with two dancers dressed as vaginas and the anthemic “Fuck the Pain Away.”

As a purveyor of sexual phantasmagoria, Peaches even went the bizarre literal route walking out onto the audience’s hands inside an inflated phallus during “Dick in the Air.” And then there was the selfie-stick obsession throughout, with Peaches simulating taking photos of herself and her comrades.

It was as much a feminist art piece as a rock show, with the final song, “Light in Places” done in near darkness and ending with her disappearing into the recesses of dreams, fantasies and a world of unlimited creative potential.

The night began with the bizarre sexed-up karaoke of Naked Cowgirl. Then the different speed of rockers Deap Vally readied everyone for Peaches. Led by Lindsey Troy with guest drummer Liv Marscio of Liphemra, they were a glorious serving of guitar, drums and hair flips.
