Take it away, Lovey!
Lovey is a unique name, where did it come from?
Lovey is a unique name. It actually came from a friend who thought this was the perfect stage name for me.
What is your first musical memory?
My first musical memory was singing “On My Own” from Les Mis for a recital at a school in front of a bunch of parents. My mom cried the entire time. I am not sure why because I kept forgetting the words.
What is your favorite type of music to sing?
I love to sing pop songs that allow me to belt out. Any song that I can sing in my room with my hairbrush and really let loose.
What is the number one goal you would like to achieve with your music career?
I love to inspire young girls and teens and entertain people. My original goal with my singing was really to be just able to perform and have fun. Okay... and maybe perform at Madison Square Garden to a sold out crowd.
You took on singing after you started to dance. What do you like better; singing or dancing?
This is a very tough question for me. Do I have to pick one? I really do love them both and love when I can sing and dance together on stage. I sing all the time, but there is nothing better than a great dance practice.
Who is your inspiration?
My biggest inspiration is Ariana Grande. She is funny, she stays true to herself, and the girl can sing.
Is there anything your fans should be expecting in the near future?
There are so many projects I am working on right now. I am so busy right now. I am currently writing two new originals in the studio, one a pop dance song, the other a power ballad. I also have some collaborations with some other artists that will be coming out soon.
"Who You Are" is your new single. What does the song reveal about who you are?
"Who You Are" is a message to everyone to stay true to themselves. No dream is too big. You can truly do or be anything you want to be.
What do your friends think of your growing successes?
This question is actually a downer. Most of my friends from high school have not been super supportive of my career, because I have been so busy and not been able to hang out with them. They don't understand why this is so important to me. A positive is that I have met some amazing new friends that are in the industry. [They] are such great people and understand the sacrifices that have to be made.
What are you looking most forward to when you go on tour?
I am most excited about sharing my music with new fans and making new friends and memories.
What city are you most excited to perform in at your tour?
I really hope to perform in Portland [Oregon] again soon. I have such a great support group of fans here and the concert was a huge success.
Who are some of your favorite artists?
Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Justin Timberlake and I am loving Miley Cyrus's new album.
If you weren't singing, what do you think you would want to do?
That's an easy one. Dance.
What was it like working with John Oates?
Working with John Oates was very intimidating. I didn't really spend any time with him. I was so new and pretty nervous. It was my first original song so I didn't even know what to expect.
Who are some other artists you'd like to collaborate with?
I would love to collaborate with Justin Timberlake. Isn't he on everyone's list? And of course Ariana Grande.
We love your version on "Someday at Christmas." Why did you decide you wanted to record that?
I wanted to do a Christmas cover because it's something I haven't done before. I love the holidays and I was trying to find a song that had a great message but I could really make my own. I think it's a beautiful song.
How are YouTube and social media helping to expose young musicians?
I never realized how important Social Media was in gaining and maintaining fans. The whole social medial concept is huge for performers. It's also great to use it as an outlet to express your feelings, keep in touch with fans, and keep a pulse on what's happening.
When you got started at singing, could you ever have imagined you'd be recording and touring?
Not at all, this whole career started from me singing at dance competitions to win trophies. I couldn't have dreamed it to be so great. I have met so many amazing people on my journey so far who have helped me become a better performer, a better friend, and a better me.
