It’s A Long Way Down the Halloween Road
Freeform kicked off their annual “31 Nights of Halloween” on September 30 with a press preview of their Halloween Road walkthrough event. Taking place at Heritage Square Park in Los Angeles, the road uses historic houses as backdrops to various films like the Addams Family, Ghostbusters, and Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Although it was a drive-through last year due to Covid, this year allows a more intimate experience with characters and props as you stroll through with your friends and family. With various photo opportunities, your Instagram will have posts for days!
At the beginning, guests will get the opportunity to say, “Trick or treat,” at various stations on the side of the dirt road; fortunately, there are only treats in store from floating hands.
Through the giant pumpkin mouth, step into the town square of Halloween Town from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Sit down in the mayor’s car, count down the days to Halloween, or take a walk through the holiday tree circle. There’s more to see at Sally’s garden and Dr. Finkelstein’s lab, where guests can pose as one of the doctor’s creations on his lab table or stir Sally’s poisonous green soup.
From Sally’s garden, experience a tarot card reading across from the graveyard for various creatures from Shrek, Monsters Inc., and Hocus Pocus, under Jack Skellington’s full moon, of course. It makes for a perfect photo op!
Sponsored by BoxLunch, the road features a pop-up BoxLunch shop with plenty of Spooky Halloween merchandise. Anyone in attendance can spin Oogie Boogie’s wheel in his neon-lighted lair for a chance to win various prizes from sponsors as well.
You don’t have to go to Salem to be transported to the Sanderson sisters’ cottage, where you can see them brewing up potions and even receive one from them. One for each of the sisters, there is a love, protection, and long-life potion that are different essential oils.
Also visit Old Burial Hill where Billy Butcherson can be seen zombie walking and dancing. Across the path, the Hocus Pocus stage features a drag show by the Sanderson Sisters singing their iconic trio songs. Drinks are available for pre-purchase before the event to enjoy with the show.
Next to the cottage, guests can find the Addams Family Mansion with Wednesday Addams and Uncle Fester for an electric chair photo op! However, you won’t be truly shocked until you see the giant marshmallow man at the Ghostbusters station, including the ghost mobile and two ghostbusters for photos.
At the end of the road, you’ll be back in The Nightmare Before Christmas. Be ready to fall into Christmas Town with swirling lights and grab a bat in the bathtub at Lock, Shock, and Barrel’s treehouse.
Tickets sell out fast, and you definitely don’t want to miss this event for this and future Halloweens! It’s an immersive and incredible experience for fans of Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Ghostbusters, and The Addams Family.
