Hey, Nothing & Girl Tones – The Foundry – Philadelphia, PA – April 20, 2025
Girl Tones took the stage in Philly on a Sunday night, opening for headliner Hey, Nothing. Sister duo Kenzie and Laila ignited their punk rock energy, with sounds of distorted garage riffs, similar to The White Stripes or Sleater-Kinney. They immediately drew the crowd in starting the set with their 2024 single “Again,” with lyrics expressing anger and disappointment when it comes to people continuously showing their true colors in relationships. The audience was fully engaged throughout the set, arms in the air with singer Kenzie while clapping to each drumbeat. The band ended their set with their explosive, in-your-face single “Fade Away” while Kenzie jumped around on stage.

Next up was Hey, Nothing, an emo-folk duo who is well known in the indie scene. The duo, Tyler Mabry and Harlow Phillips, continued to bring the fun with their wholesome banter, and even throwing glow sticks out in the crowd to wave back and forth during their songs. When the band switched from electric to acoustic, they performed a cover of “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon that everyone sang in unison. Another notable moment in their set was an emotional acoustic performance of “Ur Purple Eyes.” While the crowd yelled lyrics to every song during the show, this one was a tear-jerker that had you swaying along quietly listening to the harmonies.

Afterwards, Tyler and Harlow thanked the audience for being so quiet and respectful with warm hugs on stage. The energy in this set felt so warm and welcoming, from emotional acoustic moments to the band showing appreciation for their tour and merch manager and following up with a shout-out to Girl Tones. The night ended in a room filled with smiles all around and loud cheers.
