Greta Van Fleet & Surf Curse – Wells Fargo Center – Philadelphia (PopEntertainment.com Concert Revie

Greta Van Fleet & Surf Curse – Wells Fargo Center – Philadelphia, PA – September 19, 2023

Greta Van Fleet was just back in Philadelphia for an incredible night. Fans were eager to see the rock band from Frankenmuth take the stage again after the impression that their last Dreams In Gold Tour left on the rock and roll scene. After their latest album Starcatcher was released in July 2023, fans couldn’t wait to see what they had up their sleeve for the new tour.

First to take the stage was Surf Curse. They began their set with “Arrow,” “Cathy,” and “Heathers.” They immediately commanded the room, and the strong vocals and instrumentals blended well. I have seen Surf Curse live before, and they never disappoint. Their chemistry as a band and love for performing was clear as they continued with my personal favorite, “TVI,” as well as “Strange,” “Self Portrait,” “Freaks,” “Disco,” and “Sugar.” Throughout Surf Curse’s set, you could feel the energy building throughout the arena. Their performance was strong, and they started off the night on a great note.

At around 8:45, lights went low, and the arena erupted in cheers, as it was time for Greta Van Fleet to begin. As the anticipation that filled the room reached its highest point, the curtain in front of the stage dropped to reveal the band standing lined up on stage. Cheers and screams of excitement could be heard throughout the entire room as they made their way to their sides of the stage, and began their set with “The Falling Sky,” “The Indigo Streak,” “Lover Leaver (Taker Believer),” and “Meeting the Master.” The songs were accompanied by beautiful pyrotechnics and lights as they ventured out close to the crowd interacting with audience members.

The crowd sang along to every word as their set continued with “Heat Above,” “Highway Tune,” “Tears of Rain” (performed for the first time since its release), “Waited All Your Life,” and “Black Smoke Rising.” The energy in the room didn’t die down once, as fans continued to sing along to every single word. Greta Van Fleet always manages to create an incredible and inclusive atmosphere at each of their shows, and to be a part of it is such a unique and beautiful experience.

They wrapped up their set with “Sacred The Thread,” “The Archer,” a cover of Melanie’s “Lay Down (Candles in the Rain),” “Light My Love,” and “Farewell for Now.” As the show ended, many fans were overwhelmed with emotion. Smiles and tears could be seen on many faces as the venue began to clear out.

This was my second time seeing Greta Van Fleet, and both times they just continue to set the bar higher. I highly recommend giving their latest album Starcatcher a listen and getting out to see them on tour if you can!
