Franklin Music Hall was packed from wall to wall on Saturday night as fans gathered for an electric evening with Djo for the Back on You tour! If you don’t know, Djo is the musical project of Joe Keery – who you may otherwise know as Steve Harrington in Stranger Things. His music is a blend of psychedelic pop and indie rock, and he brings strong lyrics and a retro flair to the music scene. After his latest album release, The Crux, fans couldn’t wait to see Djo take the stage.

Up first was a set from Post Animal, the Chicago based psychedelic rock band that Keery also used to be a part of. As the five members took the stage, they immediately got the energy of the night started. Their setlist included tracks like “Caving In,” “Gelatin Mode,” “Alabaster,” and “How Do You Feel.” Towards the end of the set, Keery joined his friends on stage for the last few songs, “Last Goodbye,” “When I Get Home,” and “Dirtpicker.” Their set was full of fun, and the chemistry between each member on stage was strong. Fans were up off their feet and ready to dance from the first moment they started to play!

About 30 minutes later, the lights went low, and it was time for Djo to take the stage. The venue was bathed in intense shades of red, blue, and green, as Keery started off strong with “Runner,” before jumping right into “Gloom.” Immediately, fans were singing each and every word, and excitement could be seen on almost every face. Djo’s setlist was an eclectic mix from all three of his albums, Twenty Twenty, DECIDE, and The Crux. The setlist included fan-favorites as well as some brand-new tracks, such as “Link,” “Basic Being Basic,” “Fool,” “Chateau (Feel Alright),” “Roddy,” “Gap Tooth Smile,” and more.

Joe Keery’s stage presence and the energy that is Djo made the entire night feel like an immersive experience. It almost felt like a trance, as the vibe of the performance made it almost impossible to look away. The show moved effortlessly, from high-energy tracks to slow and smooth moments that pulled the crowd even deeper. One of my favorite moments was during the last song of the night, “Flash Mountain,” when the guys of Post Animal took the stage once more for a synth-filled, high energy jam session. It was chaotic in the best way, as vibrant lights pulsed and the energy of the night reached its peak. Smiles of awe could be seen throughout the crowd as everybody soaked in the final moments of the night.

The Back On You World Tour continues through June before Djo takes the stage again for the Another Bite Tour later in the summer, so be sure to grab tickets to a show near you, and stream Djo’s latest album, The Crux!
