Del Water Gap – The Stone Pony – Asbury Park (A PopEntertainment.com Concert Review)

Del Water Gap – The Stone Pony – Asbury Park, NJ – June 9, 2024

Del Water Gap (the solo project of singer-songwriter and producer S. Holden Jaffe) finally took the stage in Asbury Park, NJ, marking their first performance in the state. It was a fantastic evening of indie-folk pop, with an energetic and intimate sold-out crowd at the Stone Pony. This concert easily proved one of the best I have ever attended.

The evening began with an opening act from Vancouver-based artist Kaleah Lee, whose powerful yet tender vocals set a relaxed and welcoming tone for the night. Lee’s set was impressive, but it was evident the audience was eagerly anticipating Del Water Gap. Finally, the show began. The lights dimmed, and the band took the stage, causing a sudden jolt of electricity. The passionate audience erupted into cheers, the anticipation turning into a wave of energy as Del Water Gap launched into their first song, instantly captivating everyone in the room.

Jaffe’s emotive vocals and heartfelt lyrics resonated deeply with his fans. Fan favorites like "High Tops" and "Ode to a Conversation Stuck in Your Throat" had the audience singing along, creating a strong sense of community and connection. The intimate setting of the Stone Pony added to the magic of the night, with Jaffe and his band displaying a remarkable ability to connect with the crowd. Their tight musicianship and vibrant stage presence made each song feel like a shared, wholesome experience.

Del Water Gap’s performance was a perfect way to spend a summer evening, celebrating music and community in the heart of Asbury Park. It will be remembered forever by all who were lucky enough to experience it.
