Backstreet Boys – The Axis Theater – Las Vegas, NV – March 8, 2017
Time to break out your old t-shirts everyone, because Backstreet’s back… all right! The boys are back in town, and that town is Sin City! The Backstreet Boys have started their Las Vegas residency tour at Planet Hollywood. The “Larger Than Life” show started in March and will continue until on into the summer.
Let’s just say you don’t want to miss this show! It was by far one of the most fun and exciting shows I’ve ever been to. As soon as the doors opened people came flooding in; including fans and even some celebrity friends such as Joey Fatone from NSYNC! The doors opened at 8pm. The Axis theatre was packed and everyone was awaiting the Backstreet Boys.
When the clock struck 9, suddenly the room erupted with light. Five screens lit up on both sides of the stage, as well as five across the stage, playing baby videos of Nick, AJ, Kevin, Brian, and Howie on all screens. The nostalgic videos then turned into a mashup of all of their most popular songs; from “I Want It That Way” to “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).” The crowd was wild as we patiently waited for the guys to come on the stage. The venue was erupting with screams with each different song that came on, making the crowd even more excited by the second.
Finally, the first chords of the song “Larger Than Life” rang out and immediately everyone was on their feet. As the Boys (Men?) began to sing, the screens on the stage slowly dipped down and turned around… revealing the one, the only, The Backstreet Boys! You would think the screams would die down, with the band now being adults and raising families of their own, but no; everyone was CRAZY!
As soon as they got on the stage, the whole place was full of life and amazing dance moves. They followed the intro with songs like “The One,” “Get Down” and “Drowning.” Each song had a different color scheme lighting the stage, with amazing set designs and something unique for each different tune. It wound up looking amazing, using things such as strobe lights, lazers, etc., which took the show above and beyond anything I had expected. A few times throughout the set they had outfit changes, but each outfit consisting of boy-band-looking attire, and everyone somewhat matching.
In middle of the set list, they slowed it down a bit, playing songs like “Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely” and “As Long as You Love Me.” The did not stop the crowd a tiny bit. With each song came the chanting, everyone singing the lyrics right back to the guys themselves. The band soon picked it back up with “We’ve Got It Goin’ On,” automatically making the crowd jump and dance around, while the Boys were doing the exact same on the stage. They really had it going on!
They went out with a bang, ending it with their classic hit “I Want It That Way.” The tune rang through the halls, because everyone was singing along! After that was over, they said their goodbyes and thank yous, only to be followed up with more cheering from the crowd wanting to bring them back on one more time!
A few minutes of screams led to the boys coming back up on stage, and ending the show with “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).” They group recreated the choreography from the original music video that real fans know by heart. No one was sitting down, everyone was up on their feet and excited to hear this song! It soon came to an end with the Boys and their dances taking a bow, and confetti flying through the air. With this last bow, the screams were as loud as they could be. Then suddenly everything was black and it was all over. Let’s just say it was beyond an amazing show! If you could take trip to Vegas to see the show I definitely suggest it!
